RIPLEY – Ruth Pegram Davis, 88, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Tippah County Hospital in Ripley. She was born Sept. 2, 1924, to Walter Winchester Pegram and Viola Childers Pegram.
Before retiring, she worked as a dental assistant for 25 years and later at North Mississippi Savings and Loan. She was a Girl Scout in Mrs. Elizabeth Smith’s troop and became a Girl Scout leader for her daughters. She was pianist for Shady Grove Baptist Church for more than 40 years. She also served as church treasurer. She was a member of Ripley Century Civic Club, the sewing club, Tippah County Hospital Auxiliary, Young at Heart and West Ripley Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir.
Ruth’s father died when she was only 3, but her mother and three grown brothers spoiled her by making sure she had everything she needed. She and her mother often lived with her brothers in Akron, Ohio, and Los Angeles, Calif., providing wonderful adventures in her life. She married the love of her life, Vernon Davis. Their marriage was one of true love and adoring devotion that lasted 61 years until his death in 2008. They enjoyed traveling, often in caravans of campers with friends and family. Together, they created a home filled with love and happiness.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing the piano, crocheting and painting. She was well-known for her sense of humor and was often the instigator of a humorous prank. She loved to travel at any opportunity.
She is survived by three daughters, Sally Bennett (Mike) of Terry, Jane Gair (Tyson) of Starkville and Carol Davis Mauney of Ripley; her grandchildren, Jenny Jones (David) of Tupelo, Spencer Holley of Madisonville, Ky., Alex Mauney of Chicago, Ill., Taylor Gair of Starkville, Molly Mauney of Ripley and Bentley Mauney of Ripley; and six great-grandchildren, Brooks Holley, Tanner Jones, Gwen Holley, Kate Ward, Mia Ward and Allie Bennett.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Y. Davis; her parents; one sister, Martha Pegram; three brothers, Walter Ray Pegram, Cap Pegram and James Pegram; one son-in-law, Phillip Mauney; and one grandson, Samuel Davis Mauney.
Funeral services will be today at 10 a.m. at Ripley Funeral Home. Burial will be in Tippah Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Alex Mauney, Bentley Mauney, Taylor Gair, Spencer Holley, David Jones, Mike Bennett, Tyson Gair, Kelly Ward and Eddie Joe McMillin.

NEW SITE – Billy Joe Johnson, 83, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 7, 1929, to William Joel Sr. and Lillie Mae Johnson. He was a member of Mt. Nebo Methodist Church. He was a Korean War veteran and a retired carpenter.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Glenn Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Little Brown Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors are his wife, Betty Joe Johnson of New Site; one daughter, Marilyn (Max) Wilson of Booneville; one son, Ricky (Robbin) Johnson of Booneville; four grandchildren, Marca (Danny) Williams of Guntown, Nikki (Kevin) Oaks of Blackland, Marlee Wilson of Booneville and Brett Johnson of Booneville; four great-grandchildren, Kirk Williams, Joey Williams of Guntown, Avery Grace Oaks of Blackland and Ellie Louise Williams of Guntown; and one brother, William Joel Jr. (Mary Ellen) Johnson of Booneville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Donna Cunningham, Clara White and Mary Lou Johnson; and three brothers, W.C. Jack, J.C. and George Johnson.

PLANTERSVILLE – Bobby Joe “Shack” Jones. 64. died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born March 27, 1948, in Lee County to Henry Lee Jones and Ernie B. Shumpert Jones. He was an employee of Super Sagless for more than 20 years and of Hoener Box for 19 years, where he retired.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Tupelo with the Rev. Lowell Walker officiating. Burial will be in Porter’s Memorial Garden in Tupelo. Agnew & Sons Funeral Home of Verona is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Jones; eight sons, Allen Rogers, Rodney Jones, Tkoyo Jones, Rodrequis Green, Anthony Ruff, Denarius (Christine) Ruff, Andrea (Tosha) Ruff and Rana Owens; four daughters, Gloria Garth, Linda Garth, Marie Penro and Shaytra (Tommie) Frazier: one brother, Billy Joe (Maxine) Rosebud; one sister, Kim Jones; 25 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

TUPELO – Kenneth Ohara Vaughn, 59, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at his residence in Tupelo. A native of Lee County, he was the son of James Everette Vaughn I and Lillie Mae Vaughn. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Tupelo. He was a retired captain for the City of Tupelo Police Department with 28 years of service. He also worked at North Mississippi Medical Center as a security guard, a third shift foreman at Penn Tire and a journeyman wireman for I.B.E.W. Local Union 852 of Corinth. He loved to fish, watch football and grill.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at St. Paul United Methodist Church Family Life Center. The Rev. Gloria McKinney will officiate. Burial will be in Porter Memorial Park. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

FULTON – Patsy Idwilda Rooker, 48, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at her daughter’s home in Fulton following an extended illness. She was born in Houston on April 4, 1964, to George David Forrester and Patsy Jeanette Wise Whitehead. She worked as a seamstress at Seminole Furniture Mfg. before becoming disabled. She always put her family first and enjoyed staying in touch with friends on Facebook. She was a very giving person who thought of others before herself. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Egypt Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Patterson (Matthew) of Fulton; two sons, Buddy Rooker of Ripley and Jimmy Rooker of Okolona; two grandchildren, Amber Mae Patterson and Natalee June Rooker.

He died on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born on Jan. 3, 1941, in Iuka to Estes and Audie Belue South. He worked for Little’s Construction. He loved to fish and ride four-wheelers, enjoyed spending time outdoors and above all he loved to spoil his grandchildren.
He is survived by three sons, Mackey Dwayne South of Jackson, Tenn., Terry Scott (Kristy) of Corinth and Robert Sherial Scott (Barbara) of Blue Mountain; two daughters, Kim King (Ricky) of Corinth and Angela Morgan (Jerry) of Rienzi; three brothers, Charles South (Barbara) of Rienzi, Truman South (Betty) of Burnsville and Noel “Red” South (Janice) of Iuka; one sister, Earnistine Trimble of Burnsville; seven grandchildren, Bradley, Mallory, Justin, Austin, Matthew, Tara and Megan; three great-grandchildren, Jada, Chandler and Haley; one brother-in-law, Garvin Walker; one sister-in-law, Faye South; several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Arneta; three brothers, Wallace, Ted and Bobby South; one sister, Meb Walker; and two infant siblings.
The family will receive friends beginning at noon Friday at the church.

COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. – Elizabeth Ann Wilson, 71, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at her residence in Collierville, Tenn. She was born Feb. 17, 1941, to Gifford Sigh and Marie Young Conwill in Hamilton. She was a graduate of Aberdeen High School. She lived the past eight years in Collierville, Tenn. She retired as owner of Wren Body Works.
