Randal “Shawn” Phillips, 42, was driving a 1999 Chevy pick-up on Highway 8 when he failed to stop at an intersection at Highway 278 at 10:10 p.m. Saturday. He struck a tree head-on and was not wearing a seatbelt, said Monoe County Coroner Alan Gurley. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other cars were involved, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
