Jason Shelton qualifies to run for Tupelo mayor

Attorney Jason Shelton has qualified as a Democrat to run for Tupelo mayor. Right now he faces Republican Fred Pitts in June.

The primary election will be May 7, and the general election will be June 4. New terms begin July 1.

Incumbent Jack Reed Jr. is not running for re-election.

Shelton, 36, has practiced law in Tupelo for 13 years.
