KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Marshall Henderson was unhappy with his performance in his first NCAA tournament game.

It was not his worst game of the season, however.

Henderson has been given broad discretion on firing up shots. At times, Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy lets Henderson shoot through his problems. Other times, he’s brought Henderson to the bench.

Henderson was 6-for-21 from the floor and 3-for-12 from 3-point range.

In the loss at Mississippi State, Henderson was 4-for-19 from the floor and 3-for-18 from the arc.

He had made three or more 3-pointers in a game 27 times this season.

Summers returns

Sophomore point guard Jarvis Summers started and played 32 minutes. It was Summers’ first action since sustaining a concussion late in the Rebels’ SEC quarterfinal win over Missouri.

Summers had nine points and three rebounds before fouling out with 1 minute, 25 seconds left. He also had four turnovers, only the fourth time this season he’s had four or more in a single game.

Player of the game

Reggie Buckner was dominant defensively with 12 rebounds, five blocked shots and two steals. He also scored nine points on 4-for-10 shooting.

Quotable

“Listen, we’ve seen this show before. Once he makes one or two … Feed Henderson. Feed Moncrief? Feed Henderson. Same thing.” – Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy
