L.D. Bevill

L.D. Bevill, 89, of Calhoun City went to be with the Lord on April 29, 2009, at his home. He was born May 5, 1919, in Chickasaw County. He was a retired employee of Pennaco and a member of Reedy's Chapel Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 50 and the VFW.

Services were held Saturday at Pryor Funeral Home chapel in Calhoun City with Bros. Gladwin Carpenter, Bobby Joe Poss and Billy Little officiating. Burial was in Reedy's Chapel Cemetery in Calhoun City.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda Bevill of Calhoun City; two daughters, Clara Reynolds and husband Oren and Shirley Spencer and husband Tom, both of Calhoun City; one sister, Pauline Conner of Pontotoc; one brother, Ray Bevill of Houston; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W.L. Bevill and Jennie Adams Bevill; a grandchild, Zachary Reynolds; and four sisters and five brothers.

Pallbearers were Robert L. Easley, James H. Easley, White Baker, William Easley, Tom Reedy and Don Reedy.

A.J. Hodges Jr.

Andrew James amp"A.J.amp" amp"Fatamp" Hodges Jr., 85, of Calhoun City, died May 4, 2009, at his home. Born May 25, 1923, to Andrew James and Annie Wade Hodges in the Montevista community, he was a retired farmer and a member of Bentley Baptist Church. He was a 100 percent disabled Navy veteran of World War II, a Mason, and a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Pryor Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Jimmy Vance officiating. Burial will be in Montevista Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Orr Hodges; a son, Don Hodges and wife Alcee of Clinton; two grandchildren, Michael Hodges and wife Rebecca of St. Joseph, Mo., and Jennifer Gregg and husband Brent of Brandon; three great-grandchildren, Megan Hodges, Asutin Gregg and Dalton Gregg.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Glidwell hughes; and a brother, Gerstle Hodges.

Pallbearers were Lynn Barry Hodges, Michael Hodges, Brent gregg, Harvy Dan Orr, Danny Jean Orr and Charles Hugh McFall. Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Conner, Barney Wade and J.W. Rodgers.

Clara Mitchell Bridwell

Clara Mitchell Bridwell, 88, of Bruce died April 30, 2009, at Hospice Ministries Inc. in Ridgeland. She was a homemaker and a former employee of Garan Inc. Textile Factory in Lambert. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church in Senatobia.

Services were held Saturday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Junior Richie and the Rev. Will Turner officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Mitchell Burdine of Hattiesburg and Theresa Mitchell Hearn of Pearl; three sons, Larry Dean Mitchell of Lima, Ohio, Donald Mitchell of Newman, Ga., and Gail Mitchell of Clarksdale; one brother, Lennon Ray White of Calhoun City; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charlie Dean Mitchell and Wayne Bridwell; her parents, Earnest Carroll White and Elizabeth Winter White; two sisters, Dorothy Ivy and Kathleen Brasher; and one brother, Zulie White.

Pallbearers were Edwin Lee Parker, Jimmy White, Boyd Falvey, Danny Ivy, Gary Ivy and Travis England.

June Ferguson

June Roberts Ferguson, 72, of Bruce died May 1, 2009. She was born June 13, 1936, in Natchez to the late Edgar Roberts and Lola Bertha Flaherty Roberts and attended Calvary Baptist Church.

Services were held Sunday at the Parker Memorial Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Steve Holiday and Rev. Joe Barnett officiating. Burial was in the Rocky Mount Cemetery in Pittsboro.

Survivors include her husband, Veottis Ferguson of Bruce; son, Leo Forester of Ferriday, La.; stepson, Donald Ferguson (Devy) of Smithville; stepdaughters, Donna Jones (David) of Smithville and Denise Booth (Ricky) of Aberdeen; two sisters, Becky Clarkson of Leesville, La., and Emma Jean Coates of Harrisburg, La.; five step-grandchildren, Kayla Morgan, Caitlyn McKenzie, Megan Booth, Josie Booth and Chloe Ferguson; five step-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Bill Burley; two sisters, Alda Wheeler and Melba Roberts; and four brothers, Jimmy Lee Roberts, Walter Ray Roberts, Nelson Roberts and A.D. Roberts.

John Luther Bailey

John Luther Bailey, 83, of Calhoun City died May 4, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. He was born June 23, 1925 in Leflore County. He was a member of New Providence Baptist Church and a farmer.

Services were held Wednesday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Vardaman with the Rev. Robert Earl Alexander officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Lou White Bailey of Calhoun City; two sons, Curtis Bailey of Little Rock, Ark., and John LeRoy (Beatrice) Bailey of Calhoun City; three brothers, Eddie Martin Bailey, James Otis Bailey and Clyde Bailey, all of Houston; one sister, Earlene Williams of Eupora; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John B. Bailey and Mary C. Bailey; and a son, Jimmy Bailey.

Pallbearers were Mike Wade, Barney Wade, Buster Ray Russell, Toxie Russell, James Tutor and James Tutor Jr.

Claudie Sanders

Claudie Wayne Sanders, 76, died May 3, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, North Mississippi. He was born Feb. 15, 1933, in Bruce. He was a trucker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Services were held Tuesday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home chapel with Bro. John Forgy and Bro. Ed Barlow officiating. Burial was in Bruce Cemetery.

Survivors include three daughters, Teresa Sanders, Peggy (Dennis) Kee and Barbara (Dale) Ghyers, all of McKenzie, Tenn.; a special friend, Louise Gaither of Bruce; a stepdaughter, Lori Gaither of Bruce; two stepsons, Dale Gaither of Oxford and Eric Gaither of Memphis; a sister, Bobbie Jean Wright of Bruce; a brother, Hubert Sanders of Coffeeville; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Albert Sanders and Mamie Doris Bray Sanders; and a brother, Russell Sanders.

Pallbearers were Joshua Kee, Mat Kee, Nick Ghyers, Mark Ghyers, Joe Winter and Sam Ed Terry.

Helen Williams

Helen "Tincy" Brown Williams, 71, of Eupora died May 2, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora. Born June 15, 1938, in Webster County, she was a retired nurse's aide and homemaker and a member of Lollars Grove Baptist Church in Webster County.

Services were held Monday at Montevista Baptist Church with Bro. James Hill officiating. Burial was in the Montevista Cemetery. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Charles A. Williams of Eupora; son, Thomas L. Williams (Angela) of Eupora; two sisters, Ruth Chandler of Eupora and Margie Warren of Pontotoc; brother, Tony Brown of Eupora; and one grandchild, Amber Williams of Eupora.

Betty Wood Edmondson

Betty Wood Edmondson, 61, of Vardaman died May 2, 2009, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born Nov. 26, 1947, in Calhoun City. She was a bookkeeper for Cannon Motor Co. She was a member of College Hill Baptist Church, where she played the piano for many years. She loved to sing.

Services were held Tuesday at College Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Ramage, the Rev. Jimmy Vance and the Rev. Kenneth Armstrong officiating. Burial was in College Hill Cemetery southeast of Derma. Pryor Funeral Home, Calhoun City, was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Jay Edmondson of Vardaman; three daughters, Deanna (Jason) Davis of Vardaman, Tracy (Ja) Leachman of Bruce and Kelly (Randy) Chrestman of Vardaman; her mother, Kathleen Wood of Calhoun City; nine grandchildren, Taylor Rodgers, Jessica Rodgers, Jaymie Davis, John Grayson Leachman, Lynsey Leachman, Laken Lucious, Jacey Lucious, Payten Chrestman and Colin Chrestman; a special nephew, Scott Wood of Bruce; and many other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Belon Wood; and a brother, Don Wood.

Pallbearers were Scott Wood, Trent Edmondson, Cody Edmondson, Jason Davis, Ja Leachman and Randy Chrestman. Honorary pallbearers were Toni Orozco, Darrell Mitchell, Bryan Mitchell, Thomas Langford, Kevin Langford, Shaun Parker, Toby Edmondson and Larry Moore.

Glynda Stewart

Glynda Taylor Stewart, 66, of Calhoun City died April 28, 2009, at her home. She was born Aug. 20, 1942, in Calhoun City. She was a homemaker and a member of Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She loved to play bridge.

Services were held Friday at Pryor Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Scott Wright officiating. Burial was in Calhoun City Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, R.B. Stewart of Calhoun City; three daughters, Donna Lovorn (Andy) and Becky Keeton (Jamie), both of Calhoun City, and Betty Bryant (Tony) of Bruce; one brother, Jimmy Taylor (Melba) of Calhoun City; six grandchildren, Kelly Lovorn (Kim), Kim Lenard (Barry), Jennifer Weeks (Donnie), Keith Bryant (Ashley), Heather Collums (Dewayne) and Jody Bryant.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Taylor and Vivian McKelroy Taylor; a sister, Susan Strider; and a brother, Bobby Taylor.

Pallbearers were George Mart Mounger, Jimmy Ball, Mike Beasley, Jerry Moore, Jess Moore and Eddie Helms.

Ruthell Skiles

Ruthell Hardin Skiles, 88, of Ponchatoula, La., formerly of Slidell, La., died April 28, 2009, at her home. She was born July 27, 1920, in Calhoun County. She was a retired bookkeeper for Howard Clinic. She was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Slidell and a member of the Eastern Star.

Graveside services were held Monday at Pittsboro Cemetery with Dr. Scott Wright officiating. Pryor Funeral Home of Calhoun City was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include one daughter, Patty Book (David) of Ponchatoula, La.; one son, Lee Skiles (Nell) of Tarboro, N.C.; one sister, Grace Byars of Calhoun City; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, F.O. Skiles; a son, James Howard Skiles; and her parents, Henry Hartwell Hardin and Susie Rhodes Hardin.

Pallbearers were David Book, Paul Book, Lee Skiles, John Skiles, Joe Skiles and Eric Aymond.

Susie Bishop

Susie Mae Bishop, 96, of Pontotoc died May 3, 2009, at North Mississippi Medical Center, Tupelo. She was born June 4, 1912, to William Henry and Mary Jane Moore Segars. She was married to Paul Bishop for 67 years. She was an excellent seamstress. She used her skills working at the Garment Company in Calhoun City. When her husband was transferred to Grayson, Ala., she managed the Grayson Boarding House, where she prepared homestyle lunches for the employees at the lumber mill. When her parents became ill, she and her husband moved to Pontotoc. She worked at Ram Golf until her retirement. She loved to sew, cook and garden. She raised enough vegetables to supply family and friends. Each summer she helped her nieces and other family members make peach and pear preserves. She was a hard worker who loved her family, all of whom cherish wonderful memories of her laugh, her tenacity and cooking. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pontotoc.

Services were held Tuesday at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Ken Hester and the Rev. Ricky Young officiating. Burial was in Pontotoc Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include a brother, Charlie (Laura) Segars of Pontotoc; nieces, Bobby (Larry) Young of Pontotoc, Mary (Larry) Simmons of Jackson; great-nephews, Randy (Belinda) Young of Pontotoc, Ricky (Lori) Young of Tupelo, Ronny (Tami) Young of Tupelo; great-niece, Misty Simmons of Jackson; four great-great-nieces and four great-great-nephews, Heather Young, Jay (Ashley) Young, Nathan Young, Nicholas Young, Kyle Young, Kara Young, Madison Young and McKenzie Young; and one great-great-great-nephew, John Asher Young.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Martha Brasher

Martha Lou Brumley Brasher, 67, of Houlka died April 28, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was a Baptist and a member of Schooner Valley Baptist Church.

Services were held April 30 at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Bro. Johnny Cherry officiating. Burial was in Collums Cemetery in Calhoun County.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Brasher of Houlka; two sons, Tony Brasher and Terry Brasher, both of Houlka; five grandchildren, Amanda Ward of Houston, Anonna Brasher and Tinsley Brasher of Ridgeland, Billie Brasher of Houlka and Ashley Brasher of Randolph; one great-grandchild, Bryanna Ward of Houston; two stepgrandchildren, Charles Foster and Patrick McGonagill; one stepgreat-grandchild, Madison Foster.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Myrtle Brumley.

Buneva McGreger

Evelyn Buneva McGreger, 88, of Randolph died April 30, 2009, after an extended illness at the Church Street Personal Care Home in Ecru. She was born May 15, 1920, to Windom Sullivan and Lillian (Bishop) Sullivan in Pontotoc County. She was married Nov. 28, 1940, to Quay McGreger, her husband of 68 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Randolph Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and worked in the nursery for many years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed being a member of the Golden Oldies in Randolph.

Services were held Saturday in the Baldwin-Nowell Chapel with Bro. Gerald Finley and Bro. Terrell McGreger officiating. Burial was in the Randolph Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Quay McGreger of the Church Street Personal Care Home in Ecru; five daughters, Brenda Mize (Curt) of Shannon, June Lantrip (Larry) of Longview, Teresa Baldwin (Danny) of Juda, Tammy Bass (Mike) of Furrs, Robyn Riddle (Jody) of Algoma; one son, Barry McGreger (Regina) of Friendship; one sister, Jean Tutor (Billy) of Southaven; one brother, Jimmy Hipp of Dallas; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three children, Joseph Kent, infant son; Sylvia Cowsert and Paul McGreger.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Mike Mize, Gary Cowsert, Wesley Kisor, Jeremy Baldwin, Derik McGreger, Lane Bass, Randy Gray and Ben Riddle.

Grace Clanton

Mary Grace Clanton, 74, of Brandon passed away May 1, 2009, at her home. Mrs. Clanton was a believer in Jesus Christ and a member of Crossgates Baptist Church in Brandon. Her love of life was her family. She enjoyed Precept Bible Studies and Gardening. She was one of 12 siblings.

A celebration of life service was held Sunday at Ott amp& Lee Funeral Home in Brandon with interment following in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Grenada County. Revs. David Jett and Perry Fletcher officiated.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Doyle Clanton.

Survivors include her daughters, Patsy Coon (Howard) of Brandon and June Pickle (Bobby) of Brandon; grandchildren, Clancy Coon, Brett Pickle and Lake Pickle; sisters, Jeanette Parker of Calhoun City and Juanita Dickey of Eupora; and brothers, Quinton Hood of Dumas, AR and Glen Earl (Hob) Hood of Eupora.

Pallbearers were Brett Pickle, Lake Pickle, Preston Bridges, Wayne Clanton, Marshall West, Joseph Barnes, Ben Nash and Jack Redmond.
