NEW ALBANY - Willie Vance "Wancy" Gaines, 80, died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the Community Hospice in Verona. She was born Aug. 9, 1928, in Union County to the late Dewey and Amy Cox Jackson. She was retried from Ertel Mfg. and was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Funeral Service Chapel with Dr. Robert Daniel and Bro. David Laman officiating. Burial will be in Glenfield Memorial Park in New Albany. United Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur Charles Gaines of New Albany; one son, Bill Gaines of Olive Branch; one daughter-in-law, Cindy Gaines of Tupelo; three grandchildren, Casey Contreras, Treva Billingsley (John) and Seth Gaines (Jenny); and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Johnny Frank Gaines; one sister; and five brothers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today.

Genie B. Moore
TUPELO - Genie Bean Moore, 81, died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the Home Place in Saltillo after a lengthy illness. She was born to Wiley Holder Bean and Jennie Mae Loden Bean of Itawamba County on Feb. 20, 1928. She and her late husband lived in Tupelo since 1949. An executive secretary and office manager for Sears and Roebuck Company for nearly 20 years, opening her own business after her retirement, Genie's Gifts and Associates. She loved gardening, growing her flowers, playing the piano and the organ, cooking with excellence, sewing, ceramics and she loved her special time with her grandchildren. She was the widow of William Regional Moore, who died June 9, 2003.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors with Rev. Jay Stanley officiating and David Grant Smith delivering the eulogy. Burial will be in the Tupelo Memorial Park. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Regina Moore Kendrick (Robert) of Tupelo; one son, William Regional "Reggie" Moore of Tupelo; three sisters, Mary Lena Buckner (Otto) of Madison, Susie Plemons of Dallas, Texas, and Eula Mae Anderson (Leon) of Bozier City, La.; two brothers, Billy Bean (Josephine) of Racine, Wis., and DeWitt Bean (Ida Ann) of Iuka; two grandchildren, Davis Grant Smith (Leilani) of Abelene, Texas, and Emily Carol Smith of Houston, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and four brothers, Wiley Bean, Joe Bean, Gale Bean and Johnny Bean.
Pallbearers will be Buddy Palmer, Hal Edge, Hoyt Curbow, Raymond McCoy, Jimmy Swann, Taylor Thomas and Lewis Clark.

Pearl D. Carwyle
PONTIAC, ILL. - Pearl D. Carwyle, 90, formerly of Pontotoc, died Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at OSF St. James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center in Pontiac, Ill. She was born March 3, 1919, in Ingomar to Baron and Ella Armstrong Dillard. She married Roy E. Carwyle on Sep. 9, 1939, in Ingomar. She was educated in Ingomar and retired after 15 years from Richard-Wilcox Company in Aurora, Ill.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Thaxton Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Thaxton Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of local arrangements.
Survivors include her son, Rickey Carwyle (Candice) of Pontiac, Ill.; one daughter, Peggy Burgess (LeRoy) of Norway, Ill.; seven grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son in infancy; one daughter, Betty Fike; seven brothers; three sisters; and one granddaughter, Tammy Fike.

Russell C. Lanphere
TUPELO - Russell C. Lamphere, 88, died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at The Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 7, 1920, to Paul Lanphere and Myrtle Dugard Lanphere in Tuscaloosa, Ala., but had lived most of his life in the Tupelo area. He was a retired employee of Mississippi Valley Gas Company, now known as ATMOS Energy in Tupelo with 33 years of faithful service. He was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church. He loved playing golf, fishing, hunting and was a very avid sports fan, especially the Atlanta Braves, no matter if they were winning or losing. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy and obtained the rank of Second Class Petty Officer. He was a part of the World War II Air Wing Two South Pacific. He helped flag airplanes as they departed and landed, entertained forces on the Island of Oahu and played baseball with the Naval Baseball Teams, where mostly Major League ball players were playing. He continued to play semi-pro baseball into his mid 40's.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors with Rev. Donny Riley, Rev. Glen Wiygul, and Rev. Danny Dabbs officiating. A private burial will be in the Lee Memorial Park in Verona with Military Honors. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Helen Wade (John) of Tupelo; three sons, Lindsey Lanphere (Ann) of Mooreville, Paul Wren Lanphere (Kim) of Saltillo and Rusty Lanphere (Tracie) of Tupelo; one sister, Mary Alice Stanley of Saltillo; one brother, Doug Lanphere (Lelia) of Saltillo; one sister-in-law, Jewel Lanphere of Saltillo; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, Jewel Lanphere, who died January 19, 2009; his parents; one sister-in-law, Sarah Chase; three brothers, Jake Lanphere, Paul Lanphere Jr. and William "Pud" Lanphere.
Pallbearers will be John Lee, Scottie Cook, Chip Ferguson, Brad Lanphere, Jordan Stewart, Bob Griggs, Chase Griggs, Brett Lanphere and Ty Lanphere.
Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Long, his Sunday School class at Oak Hill United Methodist Church, his golfing buddies and Jimmy McNutt, Don Herrington and Jerry McGee.

BOONEVILLE - Larry G. Jones, 66, died Friday, July 10, 2009, at his residence after an extended illness. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by one daughter, Tammy Johnson of Booneville; one granddaughter, Chyene Kemp of Booneville; two brothers, Charles Jones (Minnie) of Shelbyville, Tenn., and Billy Jones (Jan) of Indiana; and the mother of his child, Josephine McLarty of Booneville.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert E. and Mary Viola Carrick Jones; and one brother, Jerry Jones.

RIENZI - Stanley "Gene" Bishop, 71, died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth after an extended illness. He was a member of Bethel Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Rienzi Rescue Squad for 19 years and the Rienzi Fire Department. He was a farmer and retired as custodian from Biggersville High School.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Bethel Methodist Church with Bro. Jerry Kelly and Bro. Leroy Harris officiating. Burial will be in the Booneville Cemetery. McMillan Funeral Home of Booneville is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva Bishop of Rienzi; one daughter, Arlene Gooch (Nickey) of Booneville; one son, Jimmy Bishop (Caffie) of Rienzi; two sisters, Polly Robinson and Betty Turvaville (Trenton), both of Booneville; one brother, Milton Bishop (Carolyn) of Rienzi; four grandchildren, Joe Bishop (Amanda) and Kim Vaught (Charles), both of Rienzi and Chris Gooch and April Williams (Chris), both of Booneville; three great-grandchildren, Emily and Landon Gooch and Sarah Grace Vaught; and his mother-in-law, Frances Austin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Jackson and Rachel M. Downs Bishop; one daughter, Tina Bishop; one granddaughter, Andrea Bishop; three brothers; three sisters; and his father-in-law.

Steve Johnson
NEW SITE - Stephen Brent "Steve" Johnson, 58, died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born Dec. 3, 1950, in Booneville to Ray and Ravenelle Johnson. He was a graduate of New Site High School where he played on the 1968 State Championship team receiving all state honors. He attended NEMCC and Mississippi State University earning a B.S. Degree in animal science. He later returned to MSU and earned a Master's Degree in agriculture extension and education. He was a Baptist and attended Crestwood Baptist Church. He taught vocational agriculture at Weir High School, later returning to Prentiss County to teach science at Thrasher High School. He then moved to Alcorn High School to resume teaching vocational agriculture and served as a FFA advisor. In that capacity, he used his work in the livestock program to build self-esteem in youth, encouraging them to work hard to achieve their goals. In 2000, he became the Managing Director of the Lee County Agri-Center in Tupelo and served in that capacity until his retirement. He was active in the Mississippi Angus and the Mississippi Cattlemen's Associations, serving as a past president of the Mississippi Angus Association.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Shawn Weaver officiating. Burial will be in the New Site Baptist Church Cemetery. McMillan Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his parents, Ray and Ravenelle Johnson; two brothers, Stuart Johnson (Brenda) of Tupelo and Mark Johnson of Reno, Nev.; two sons, David Johnson (Tiffany) of New Site and Cayce Johnson of Booneville; two grandchildren, Taylor and Lexie Grace; nephews and nieces, Heath and Kirk Johnson of Nashville, Tenn., and Shelley Farmer (Chase) and Kinney Ferris (Michael), both of Tupelo.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edgar Linwood and Grace Moore and Robert "Bobby" and Melvina Johnson; and an uncle Roy Johnson.

BLUE SPRINGS - Louis Lee Golding, 88, died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union County. He was born April 5, 1921, in Union County to the late Clarence Golding and Lena Brandon Golding. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired farmer and night watchman for Barclay Furniture. He was an active member of the New Harmony Baptist Church.

AMORY - Jimmy Dale Vaughan, 67, died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at his home after a sudden illness. He was born Sep. 24, 1941, in Amory to the late Raymond and Gracie Mae Cook Vaughan. He was a retired truck driver and a member of the Christian Chapel Church of Christ. He enjoyed fishing, auctions, going to flea markets with his friend, Fray (Clay), spending time with his children and grandchildren and going out to eat.

FULTON - Timothy Hugh Loague , 51, died Sunday, July 12, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born Oct. 21, 1957, to Trice and Bonnie Payne Loague. He was a member of the Harrisburg Baptist Church. He was a jeweler the past 34 years, working at Stone's Jewelers and recently opening Peppertown Jewelers. He was an avid Ole Miss fan.
