CORINTH, Miss. (AP) — The Alcorn County Veterans Service Office is getting new employees and has asked for guidance on whether it can serve Tennessee residents.

Veterans Service Officer Pat Ray told the Board of Supervisors she will lose three staff members by year-end. The board approved hiring two part-time staffers.

The Daily Corinthian reports (http://bit.ly/PB7KFC ) Ray also asked the board whether the office can help Tennessee residents, many of whom come from McNairy County. She said she is concerned about insurance coverage if a problem arises with out-of-state clients.

Board Attorney Bill Davis said service to out-of-state individuals using Alcorn County taxpayer funds could be a problem.

Ray is certified for service in any state but the office's assistant officers are certified only to help Mississippi residents.

An opinion is expected later.
