Johnson and a deputy were serving a warrant on Phillip Eric Davis, 25, at his family’s residence on County Road 1113 last Friday morning. Johnson claimed that when Davis realized the police were there, he tried to leave in his car and allegedly tried to run over the sheriff and the deputy.
The officers fired shots at the vehicle’s tires, and Davis was taken into custody after that. No one was injured in the incident.
Additional charges include five counts of credit card fraud and one count of felony eluding. His bond was set at $1 million Monday.
Johnson said Davis is on probation for a forgery conviction and has not been reporting as ordered to Mississippi Department of Corrections’ probation office.
