Theatre Festival set for this weekend at MUW

Mississippi Theatre Association’s annual Theatre Festival kicks off this weekend at the Mississippi University for Women.

The festival includes performances by high school and community theaters, like Starkville High School, Union County Schools and Tupelo Community Theatre.

The high school performances are on Friday and the community theater performances are on Saturday.

There will also be staged readings of the plays that won the playwriting competition.

Billy Brasfield – known to stars like Lady Gaga and Beyonce as Billy B – will give the keynote address on Friday. Brasfield, an Aberdeen native, is a world renowned make-up artist.

Tickets are $5/block of shows, $15/day pass and $25/weekend pass.

Keith’s ‘Outlaw Biker’ takes stage Friday night

Oxford’s own Tyler Keith will revive his musical, “The Outlaw Biker,” for another performance on Friday.

He premiered the musical, about a supernatural outlaw biker, on Halloween. It was such a success, an encore performance was necessary.

The show starts at 8 p.m. Friday at The Lyric Oxford.

Tickets are $10/cash and $12/credit card and are available at the door.

Outlaws in NE Mississippi focus of Museum Moment event

Zack Stewart, former Northern District Highway Commissioner, will speak about famous outlaws and their connection to Northeast Mississippi at this week’s Museum Moment at the Union County Heritage Museum in New Albany.

His talk begins at noon and a light lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m.
