Trooper Ray Hall said more than 20 drivers ran off the road Saturday morning after encountering unexpected patches of ice.
"They started around 6:30 this morning when people got out and didn't expect any ice," Hall said.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation helped Highway Patrol clean icy bridges and Hall said the roads are mostly clear now.
Most accidents were single vehicle accidents and Hall said two caused minor injuries. No one was fatally injured.
The ice affected Alcorn, Benton, Marshall, Tippah and Tishomingo counties.

JACKSON - The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) would like to announce a wintry weather update on roadway conditions for motorists traveling through the state.
As freezing temperatures move across Mississippi, icy precipitation has begun to accumulate on bridges in Alcorn, Tippah, Tishomingo, DeSoto, Benton, Tate, and Marshall Counties. MDOT crews are spreading slag on bridges to improve traction but extreme caution should be used if you must travel due to the patchy ice.
MDOT will keep motorists posted on road conditions as information becomes available and advises emergency travel only throughout the aforementioned areas. Motorists are encouraged to buckle up for safety, drive safely, stay alert and slow down, especially when driving in wintry weather conditions.
