Before an audience of hundreds of city employees, elected officials, busi ness leaders and citizens, Reed lauded the Fire Department, Convention and VisitorsBureau and Healthy Tupelo Task Force for bringing state and regional honors home to Tupelo.
He celebrated the Tupelo Public School District’s rating as a “High Performing” district and the city’s strong financial reserves, among many other achievements.
Reed challenged the city to help the Salvation Army raise $500,000 for a new wing for its homeless shelter.
He encouraged Tupelo’s businesses to assist with an $800,000 Parents Campaign for the new aquatic center.
His third challenge was aimed at Tupelo’s professionals and executives with children.
“If you believe in Tupelo’s unique history of having a great multi-racial public school system, think hard before you leave our Tupelo Public Schools,” he said.
