The race is in its 36th year and will include a 10K run and 2K fun run. It will be held on Saturday, May 11 during the three-day Gumtree Festival (May 10-12)
Race director Andy Hughes said sponsorships are crucial in raising the $20,000 to $25,000 necessary to offset race costs.
The Gum Tree 10K is the largest in the state, attracting 1,000 to 1,200 runners. Hughes hopes to reach a record 1,500 this year.
Procees from the race are donated to Habitat for Humanity in Tupelo. The race is its biggest fund raiser of the year, said Habitat director Donna Jarrell.
In the past eight years, the Gum Tree race has raised about $40,000 for Habitat for Humanity.
