The Mississippi High School Activities Association’s state basketball tournament tips off today with six semifinals games at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.

Five of those feature Northeast Mississippi teams – the H.W. Byers, Ashland, New Site girls and Biggersville and Baldwyn boys.

New Site’s Lady Royals, the defending state champions in Class 2A, plays Amite County at 6:30 p.m. while Baldwyn’s 2A boys, who play Williams-Sullivan at 8, are looking to win the program’s eighth state title and their first since 1987.

Byers plays Bogue Chitto at 9 a.m. and Ashland meets Hinds AHS at 1 p.m. in 1A. Biggersville plays its 1A game against West Lincoln at 2:30 p.m.
