OXFORD – Upscale sports bar concept Varsity Grille is set to replace Pearl Street Pasta, which is just off the Square. According to Clyde Whitaker, one of the owners, it will be similar to the Varsity Grille location that is set to open Sept. 1 inside The Mall at Barnes Crossing in Tupelo.

The Tupelo location will have 18 flat-screen TVs, an outdoor eating area and an outdoor fountain with flames. The menu will lean toward upscale sports bar fare with fresh seafood and quality beef cuts. Whitaker said the plan is to open the Oxford and Tupelo locations at about the same time.
