Longtime physician Murphey retires at 93

Daily Journal

Longtime Tupelo internist Dr. Eugene Murphey III has retired after 64 years of service to the community.

Murphey came to Tupelo in 1950, after completing his medical education in New Orleans and serving in the U.S. Army.

He continued to see patients until December, well past his 93rd birthday. He officially retired on Mardi Gras, March 4.

He enjoys meeting with the Southern Light Photography Club every month and is hoping to travel some. He remains active with the Tupelo Symphony Orchestra, of which wife Margaret Anne serves as executive director, and with First Presbyterian Church.
