Bryant declares emergency ahead of winter storm

djournal-weather-winterJACKSON (AP) – Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant has declared a state of emergency ahead of a winter storm that’s expected to sweep through parts of the state on Tuesday.

Bryant made the declaration Monday, clearing the way for state officials to move quickly to respond to problems that could be created by snow or ice.

He’s also delaying the opening of state government offices Tuesday in areas expected to be affected by a winter storm.

Bryant says offices can open at 10 a.m. in areas that might receive snow or ice, including the Capitol complex in Jackson.

The governor says state agency directors have the authority to bring in some employees early, as needed. He says directors also can keep government offices closed all day Tuesday, if bad weather persists.
