One vehicle accident kills Monroe County man

An auto accident in Monroe County Friday afternoon leaves an area man dead.

C.L. Webb, 72, of 50802 Wolfe Road died after the accident took place at 1:07 p.m., according to Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley.

The wreck took place at Wolfe Road near Gattman in Monroe County, 2 1/2 miles south of Highway 278. It happened 1/4 mile north of the deceased’s residence.

Webb was going south on Wolfe Road when he ran off roadway and struck a tree, according to Gurley. A neighbor saw him pass her house and then heard the wreck. There were no other vehicles involved. Webb was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic.

Gurley said Webb had some recent medical problems that may have cause him to wreck, but he is ruling Webb died from a head injury received in the accident.

Webb was driving a 1999 Toyota Tacoma pickup. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office also investigated the accident.
