TUPELO – Bruce Patel was named the Small Business Association 2014 Mississippi Small Business Person of the Year by the Mississippi District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Patel is owner of Fusion Hospitality, a Tupelo-based company which develops, owns and manages some 18 hotel properties across the country, many of them in Northeast Mississippi.
“I’m proud of our team and our employees,” he said. “It takes a team to run a business, and I’m surrounded by a lot of good people. I just get out of their way.”
Patel joins winners from the other 49 states, plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Guam. He’ll be representing the Magnolia State in May, when the winners meet in Washington, D.C. during National Small Business Week May 15-16.
There, the National Small Business Person of the Year will be named.
According to SBA, the state small business winners “represent a broad range of business products, services and innovations.”
While in Washington, they’ll have networking opportunities with top administration officials, congressional representatives and national business leaders.
Patel also will be honored along with four other Small Business Week winners in July by the Mississippi SBA District Office
His selection as the state winner “was based in part on Fusion Hospitality’s staying power, growth in number of employees, increase in sales and/or unit volume, current and past financial reports, innovations of product or service and response to adversity and contributions to aid the community,” said Janita R. Stewart, Mississippi’s SBA district director.
