ABERDEEN – Sentencing hearings have been set for two men who pleaded guilty to enticing a minor for sexual purposes.

Jon Cody Pannell, 22, of New Albany, and Dennis John Papez, 56, of Saltillo, will be sentenced May 13 in the Northern District Court of Mississippi in Aberdeen.

The two men were scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 13 but had their hearings postponed while Congress considers legislation that could offer them sentencing relief.

The Justice Safety Valve Act of 2013, a proposed law before the Senate Judiciary Committee, would allow federal judges to give sentences lower than the federal minimum.

The bill was read and referred to committee in March 2013. It’s aim is to provide relief for a swelling federal prison population.
